Well, once again my macro starts to fail somewhere around 30 supply. I was barely able to hold off the first attack at 9:30 (I need to get more units sooner), totally skipped detection until my opponent got DTs, and somehow managed to scrape out a victory.
I am extremely bad at multi-tasking. I need to get probe and pylon production down pat to the point of it requiring no thought so I can make sure I'm producing units. Any tips on how to do this besides practice?
Very late first gas. You can get it before your second pylon.
ReplyDeleteIdle gateways right as cyber core finishes, so your money gets pretty high.
You want that third gateway earlier. (Or the robo earlier.)
I see. With the late gas you can support stalker/zealot while going for robo... but you have no sentries, which hurts the effectiveness of your army.
He's pushing you with a 4 warp gate. This is the strongest build in pvp right now, but he doesn't micro and his reinforcements are late (proxy pylon far from your base, so he can't warp in right there.) You hold well- might have wanted to get the immortal earlier, but you didn't die so I'm not complaining.
Now with your earlier robo you are ahead because you can have more colossi than him. You KILL HIS ROBO which is a sign that you will be ahead for the entire game.
Idle gates for a long time while you expand, this is probably okay because you have the stronger army so he can't attack you. However you do cede some of your army advantage as both of you expand and he has robo now.
But then you move out (you could have done it as your first colossus came out and it would have worked fine) and crush his zero colossus army with your one colossus army.
You got twilight council, what are you planning to do with it?
Oh yeah you're adding gateways, good stuff. Once I have 4 gas I like to make another robotics in this matchup; colossus count is just so crucial.
Charge is okay. You're gonna have a lot of zealots and your opponent has no colossi so you might as well maximize that advantage. Usually I get blink because when you're ahead people like to switch to void rays (because colossus/zealot can't hit air) and so blink stalkers shut that down very well.
One thing you sould realize is that after you crush the opponent's army, you can just try to go kill them. In this case you can win right away, but instead you give him time to make dts and maybe come back. You take a 3rd which I guess is an okay option? It will put you farther ahead but you're already ahead enough to win.
The dts fail, as they should. They're not a strong choice.
Observers stare each other down in the center. You might as well go shoot his down.
He takes the gold, gets a stargate. See? He's switching void ray. You have enough stalkers though so you're okay.
You finally kill him.
So I guess the bottom line here is, when you hold early aggression without losing probes or buildings, you're ahead. If your colossus comes out on time after that, you can usually just go kill the guy. Here you could have won at 15 minutes but he steadily crawled back into the game from there.
My advice on making more units is to try to get used to the length of time it takes warp gates to cool down. Every so often just ask yourself to make a prediction on whether or not the warp gates are ready before you check the hotkey. Eventually you'll be able to nail the timing.
As for probes, it helps to remember that you can fit a bit more than two probes worth of time in one round of zealot production. So you want to make probes twice as often as you make gateway units, overall.
The rest comes with practice I suppose.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the replay and give me pointers! I normally get that gas before the core, but it slipped my mind this time. I also am shying away from going sentry-heavy early because I don't feel like I have the micro to use them effectively (and I'm trying to work on my macro first). I'll definitely keep in mind that if I stop an attack without taking heavy losses that I should punish the opponent. Great tip about two probes in one warp gate cycle, too!
