Game #4 (PvT)

OK, I feel like my macro was better in this game, even though I do end up losing. I made some notes as I watched the replay, here goes:

  • First of all, I didn't miss a probe until 4:15, which isn't too bad.
  • I'm not sure what I was doing when I went to build a Gateway and didn't at 4:45. Probably should have done that.
  • Missed probe production from 6:00-7:30. Ouch >_<
  • The expansion at 8:30 seemed late, but might have been at a good time probe-wise, since I forgot a bunch (see above)
  • Probes after 10:00 are... spotty at best.

Now, as for the army play, I have a few questions. Should I have attacked earlier? Should I have gone around, or through the rocks like I did? Should I have retreated? If so, how would I have known?

Any other pointers for anything I missed?

Game #3 (PvP)

Note: Since the guy was BM, I drew this game out. You can safely ignore everything after the attack where he crushes my base, that was the real end of the game. Now, here's what I think I did poorly this time around:

  • At ~1:45, I forgot to produce a probe for around 40 seconds. D'oh. Though I did produce well after that until my supply was in the 50s or 60s, I believe.
  • I supply blocked myself at 26 (I think that I was under the impression that I had already built that pylon by the rocks)
  • Didn't get an Observer (or two) out of the Robo
  • Should have pulled my army back to protect against that final push instead of going for a base trade. Especially when I saw the cannons.
  • Probably should have tried for a 3rd as the main was getting mined out.

I was low on minerals for a lot of the game. I'm not sure if this is because of my poor probe production, the probes I lost from his drop, or both.

Game #2 (PvP)

Well, once again my macro starts to fail somewhere around 30 supply. I was barely able to hold off the first attack at 9:30 (I need to get more units sooner), totally skipped detection until my opponent got DTs, and somehow managed to scrape out a victory.

I am extremely bad at multi-tasking. I need to get probe and pylon production down pat to the point of it requiring no thought so I can make sure I'm producing units. Any tips on how to do this besides practice?

Game #1 (PvZ)

Well, I didn't set the bar too high, playing while slightly intoxicated. I felt somewhat bad, as I beat a guy that was only on his third game, but c'est la vie.

I looked at this at x8 speed, and I seemed to do well with probe production and keeping my money low until about 30-some supply, where my money started going up too much. We'll see how well I play completely sober, but here's a jumping off point.

Beginning an experiment

OK, so I'm pretty bad at StarCraft II. I love watching good matches, and every time I think about it I want to try some strat or something. Unfortunately, I'm bad at the game. Intellectually, I know I need to constantly produce probes, keep up with pylons, constantly produce army units, but in-game, I run from one to the other like a chicken with its head cut off.

So, I started this blog to post my progress and to see if I can improve just a bit. For those of you wondering, I play Protoss. From now on, I'll post the replay of every 1v1 I play to see if I can get any help (or people making fun of me, whichever). Enjoy!
